Laa Marcus is a filmmaker driven by her passion for storytelling and her willingness to push boundaries in the industry, while captivating audiences with her distinctive vision and unwavering dedication to her craft. She recently embarked on her most ambitious project yet-writing, directing, and producing her first feature film, the dark comedy-murder-mystery “Glass Casa.” The seeds of Laa’s artistic journey were planted at a young age. Born in Dallas and moving to sunny San Diego with her family at age 11, Laa performed weekly plays alongside her two sisters. In high school, she saved up to purchase her own mini DV camcorder, marking the start of her journey as a writer, director, and actor in her own short films. Following her passion, Laa pursued a major in screenwriting during her time at film school. After graduating, she made the move to Los Angeles, where she immersed herself in the business side of the film industry, working with notable production and management companies. Alongside her professional endeavors, Laa wrote and directed several award-winning short films that captivated audiences across the festival circuit and garnered attention from broadcasters like Shorts TV and other channels. Inspired by motherhood and her return to her hometown of San Diego, Laa produced “Glass Casa,” a feature film which showcases her unique storytelling abilities, combining elements of humor and suspense.

RYAN BROOMBERG

Cinematographer

Ryan Broomberg is a Los Angeles based cinematographer originally from San Diego, CA. He developed a passion for filmmaking by capturing action sports at an early age including skateboarding and surfing and gradually transitioned into narrative film. He won numerous awards during his undergraduate and graduate film studies culminating in the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) award for best graduate cinematography. Since then, Ryan has filmed commercial work for All Clad, Calvin Klein, Krupps and Caesars Palace as well as several feature films, some of which have premiered at film festivals and have aired on Netflix, Hulu, Lifetime Network, Ion and other networks. Ryan also owns his own gear including an Alexa 35, Alexa mini LF, Alexa Mini and Red Komodo. He also owns lenses including Atlas Orion Silver Editions, Arri Ultra Primes and Clavius. Ryan is also licensed to fly drones and has a part 107. He is also an Underwater Operator and is Advanced scuba certified and wreck certified.

CATHERINE JOY

Composer

With a passion for music and collaboration, Catherine Joy is a composer for film, media and live performance. Early in her career she won Best Documentary Score for the uplifting feature documentary Gold Balls. Catherine then scored the documentary Naughty Books (Hulu) which features narration by Aisha Tyler, Allison Tolman and Aimee Garcia, and resulted in an ASCAP Composers Choice Award nomination. Her narrative feature, Potato Dreams Of America had its world premiere at SXSW 2021. She also scored the documentary Prognosis: Notes on Living about the final journey of Oscar-winning social justice filmmaker Debra Chasnoff. More recently she scored the award-winning doc animation series There’s No ‘I’ In Island (Screen Australia). She was also awarded the New Music USA Reel Change grant for her score for documentary Women In The Front Seat (Amazon Prime), directed by Indy Saini. In 2022 she scored a number of Romantic Comedies for Reel One Entertainment including Love Gala, Luckless in Love and Romantic Rewrite and the thriller Twisted Sister for Sunshine Films. Her latest feature, the Sundance Humanities Sustainability Fellowship recipient Home Is A Hotel won both the Jury and Audience award when it premiered at SFIFF in April 2023. Catherine is the founder and CEO of Joy Music House, a full service score production company. She also teaches film scoring for the NYU Steinhardt Masters program.
