Friendship Goals: Glass Casa and Other Movies About BFFs

Glass Casa, the new dark comedy film from writer/director Laa Marcus, has a little bit of everything—a gorgeous but potentially haunted glass house, a philosophizing wanderer type, and hilariously awkward stripping

But more than anything, it’s about a tight-knit group of friends who stick together through the chaos.

In honor of the friendships between bride-to-be Jamie, her sister Drew, and her ride-or-die besties Bianca and Evie, we’re shouting out five of our favorite movies that center friendship! Text your BFFs for a movie night ASAP.

The Breakfast Club (1985)

At first glance, this classic film that sees five very different high school students stuck together in detention might appear to be more of an anti-friendship movie, since the characters appear to barely tolerate each other at first. But as the story unfolds, we watch them connect in the absence of their usual high school roles and social structures.

The film is all about breaking down stereotypes, so its characters are layered and specific, and its themes of identity and loneliness still resonate beyond the film’s very ’80s vibe.

Like Glass Casa, it’s a movie with a contained timeline—it unfolds over a single, emotionally charged day.

Clueless (1995)

This classic 90’s movie follows Cher, a privileged, well-meaning Beverly Hills high schooler, as she navigates growing up, matchmaking, and the complexities of friendship—and ultimately learns that true connection means seeing beyond status and appearances.

In less capable hands, Cher might’ve been hard to root for, but Alicia Silverstone—under Amy Heckerling’s sharp direction—turns in a performance that makes her loveable,, even at her most clueless. Add stellar performances from the supporting cast, including a very charming Brittany Murphy and a reliably delightful Paul Rudd, and you’ve got a movie worth revisiting again and again.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)

You didn’t think we were going to get through a list of movies celebrating friendship without mentioning this iconic exploration of adolescent female bonds, did you?

This story follows four lifelong teenage besties on the brink of their first summer apart. Just before they each go off on their own adventures, they discover a pair of jeans that magically fits each of them perfectly, and use it to stay connected as they each navigate their solo journeys through love, family, death and sex.

One of the film’s greatest strengths is taking the teenage girls at its center seriously. It honors their fears, desires, goals and relationships without minimization or ridicule.

It also benefits from a strong core cast which includes performances from Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Blake Lively (and the great Bradley Whitford in a supporting role as Ferrera’s character’s father).

Crossroads (2002)

Like many films centered on female friendship, Crossroads was unfairly dismissed when it premiered in 2002—probably thanks in part to the fact that it starred pop icon Britney Spears, right in the era when many voices in the media made a habit of tearing down young women.

But take a closer look: the film was written by none other than Shonda Rhimes (yes, that Shonda Rhimes!) and features a solid cast (hi, Oscar-winner Zoe Saldaña).

The film is a sincere, often poignant story about three childhood friends experiencing major life changes and reconnecting on a road trip. There’s also a lot of fun to be had, and the central trio’s onscreen chemistry gives the film its real heart.

Practical Magic (1998)

Practical Magic follows two witchy sisters—played by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman— as they try to break a generations-long curse on their family. Their deep friendship and sisterhood drives the film, and by the end, that sisterhood expands to include a whole community of women standing together to defeat evil. Oh, and absolute legends Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest do incredible work playing the family matriarchs.

Like Glass Casa, this is a film with an enviable location—filmed on the dreamy islands  off the coast of Washington State.

Glass Casa (2024)

Jamie’s bachelorette party goes very wrong in the comedy murder mystery Glass Casa—but luckily, she’s surrounded by her three closest pals to help her survive the crazy night.

As the twists unfold, it becomes clear that these women would do anything for each other. Even when petty conflicts arise, they show up when it really counts, proving that true friendship can handle even the wildest of nights.
