No matter your relationship status or feelings about Valentine’s Day, it’s helpful to have alternative ways to celebrate (or skip) this famously divisive holiday.

If you want to do something to observe the holiday without leaning into the romance, a low-key movie night with friends is a great option.

Here are our tips for throwing an Anti-Valentine’s Day Party with Glass Casa, the dark comedy murder mystery recently released on streaming services!

Why Glass Casa is the perfect Anti-Valentine’s Day Movie

Even though Glass Casa is set at a bachelorette party, it’s more focused on the friendship between bride-to-be Jamie (Harley Bronwyn) and her circle of besties than on her love life. Packed with laughter and intrigue, it’s a great party pick–fun and engaging without the romance overload for those steering clear on February 14.

Plus, there’s a twisty murder mystery at the heart of it all, which can be a nice break from the more typical romantic comedy fare typically associated with this holiday.

Decorate

The first step in planning your Anti-Valentine’s Day decor is landing on a color palette. If you’re a fan of the classic pink and red, feel free to go with that! Just make sure to spotlight your Anti-Valentine’s elements to set it apart from a typical Valentine’s Day party. You could also add touches of black to give it a little edge.

Or go all in on the Anti-Valentine’s vibe with a color palette that sharply contrasts with pink and red— black and silver make for a glitzy, festive option. Black paired with red, purple or acid green are also bold, punky combinations.

Once you’ve got your color palette, it’s time to source decor. Broken-heart garlands, twisted streamers, and a tablecloth in your chosen colors will make your space feel party-ready and cohesive. Other ideas: opt for dried flower bouquets instead of fresh ones, and swap in anatomically correct hearts for cartoon ones for a bit of edgy fun.

Finally, consider a giant heart-shaped pinata. If you’ve got the space, taking turns smashing it open can be a cathartic and memorable Anti-Valentine’s activity.

Pro tip: before shopping elsewhere, check your own home and local thrift stores for decor ideas and supplies.

Food and drink

When it comes to snacks for your Anti-Valentine’s Day party, a little creativity goes a long way. One classic approach? Use a set of heart-shaped cookie cutters of varying sizes to shape your offerings. Use them on fruit, veggies, sandwiches, and–of course!–cookies. Then, cut each heart in half with a knife. Cutting a jagged line through the center, rather than a straight one, will make the design look more intentional.

A moodboard to help you plan your Anti-Valentine’s Day Glass Casa movie night!

For a playful pre-movie activity, bake or buy heart-shaped cookies, then have your guests decorate them as Anti-Valentine’s Day conversation hearts. Set up a station with frosting, spatulas, icing bags or edible markers, and let your guests personalize their cookies with messages like “No, thanks” or “Ugh.” If you bake your own, remember to give them time to cool completely before guests arrive!

If you’re looking for an on-theme drink, try crafting a black Anti-Love Potion mocktail or cocktail. Just make your favorite drink and add a touch of activated charcoal to turn it black. For a little extra flair, sprinkle in some edible glitter.

Pre-Movie Playlist

Nothing sets a vibe like music! Prep a pre-movie playlist to set the mood as guests arrive and settle in.
